Victual Reality: Investing in a new food system should be part of the economic-spending package

 
Barack Obama's got a full plate waiting for him when he finally moves into the White House: two wars, an economic meltdown, and the climate crisis, just for starters. Surely, this isn't the time for him to rethink food policy. Right? No so fast, argues Tom Philpott. The new president and Congress are gearing up to spend as much as $1 trillion on an economic-stimulus package. Why not use some of that cash to invest in infrastructure for local and regional food-production networks? Philpott makes the case for a spiced-up stimulus package in this week's Victual Reality.
