COAL COUNTRY: The Must-See Movie of the Summer
Switchboard, from NRDC —
I'm looking forward to attending the premier of Coal Country in Charleston, West Virginia this weekend. This documentary -- by the directors of the award-winning PBS series Appalachia -- captures the struggle of miners and activists in the battle over the world's worst coal mining: mountaintop removal. The film centers on the increasingly heated debate between coalfield residents haunted by health problems and other hardships caused by the destruction and coal company officials concerned over local jobs and the economy.

Coal Country
FUTURISM NOW —
Coal Country is a new movie that is a must-see for everyone in the United States who uses energy that comes from burning coal, and that’s just about everyone. The movie’s website is here. The movie makers and promoters are hoping to have many screenings around the country, and you can help disseminate this movie and the information it contains. See below for more info on that. ...

Appalachia: Leveling and Plundering Coal Country
Switchboard, from NRDC —
"You can't put a mountaint back." -- Judy Bonds
Across the Appalachians, companies are blowing entire mountaintops to smithereens to get at the thin coal seams below. The communities of the region are paying the cost in their health, their culture and their natural heritage. Big coal companies should not be allowed to turn our nations' oldest mountains into molehills, and NRDC is working with local allies to halt this damaging practice
Anyone interested in learning more about what I believe to be the nation's worst ongoing environmental tragedy can find good information at NRDC's website: ...
