Wind Turbine Creates a Buzz
GoodCleanTech —
Engineering solutions can often be found by looking to nature, and that's what the designers at Green Wavelength did when creating their bumblebee-inspired wind turbine, the xBee Alpha Wind. A 19-foot prototype of the turbine was shown this week at the Perfect Pitch 2009 entrepreneur conference in Marina del Rey, California. Seeing that traditional wind turbines are, they say, at best 30 percent efficient, the team at Green Wavelength looked for efficiency in the movements of bumblebees, hummingbirds, and dragonflies. The result is a turbine that moves in a back-and-fourth wing-like way. Check out this YouTube clip to see it in ...
innovative xBEE wind turbine
The Alternative Consumer —
xbeegraphic_1.png Maybe we need to look to nature for innovative alternative energy designs. Clean energy design firm, green wavelength , has created a bumblebee-inspired 19-foot wind turbine prototype that they demo’d at this week’s The Perfect Pitch 2009 entrepreneur conference. The company’s xBEE press release states: “Created by the clean energy company Green Wavelength, the prototype represents an attempt to break the mold of everyday windmill solutions that are, at best, 30 percent efficient, and seek efficiency from biological sources such as the movement of bumblebees, hummingbirds, and dragonflies.” The prototype got Green ...

Eco Factor: Bio-inspired wind turbine prototype aims to be highly efficient.
We often see that the best product designs are inspiredby simple yet efficient forms of nature. Designers at Green Wavelength believe that when designing wind turbines, the inspiration should be small, yet complex flying insects such as bumblebees. The company has showcased a bio-inspired 19-foot wind turbine prototype at the Perfect Pitch 2009 entrepreneur conference in Marina Del Rey, California.

Bio Inspired Small Wind Turbine [Video]
Green Building : Jetson Green —
Earlier this week, Green Wavelength LLC, a bio-inspired clean energy startup, unveiled their 19-foot, prototype, small wind turbine to crowds at The Perfect Pitch 2009 entrepreneur conference. Called XBee, the turbine – unlike any that you’ve probably ever seen – was designed with inspiration from the movement of ...
Small Wind Turbine Flaps Wings Like a Bee
INHABITAT —
The Birds and the Bees have inspired one startup to send forth a hovering turbine. Green Wavelength, “committed to finding ways of applying nature’s solutions to our man-made energy problems,” presented its xBee prototype to an entrepreneurial buzz at The Perfect Pitch 2009. This biomimetic windmill sports 19-ft. wings of aluminum and carbon fiber that rotate to and fro — à la bumblebees, hummingbirds and dragonflies — to produce 1-10 kW of wind power suitable for homes and small businesses. + Green Wavelength Via ...
